Trailer Build - Week Twelve - January 22, 2016

It doesn't look like much progress on the trailer this week, partially because I was waiting on parts to arrive, which ultimately came on Saturday afternoon, and I was playing around with stains and finishes for the cabinet sides and face frames.

II got the electrical in the back compartment roughed-in and routed to the interior cabin so I can install the counter top and close off this aft compartment for good.

Washdown Fitting Installed on Drivers Side

I installed a washdown fitting on the exterior as a source of water outside of the sink.  The water pump I purchased can deliver 1.9 GPM and can run to faucets at the same time.  The sink is not very large (10 inch diameter) can't handle a larger pot or pan, so this washdown fitting offers an opportunity to access water outside of the galley.  The nice part of the twist-lock handle is that the adapter can be installed with the system under pressure and no other valve needs to be turned on or off.

With the galley storage compartment completed, I installed the sink and the faucet that came on Saturday.  Its a Marine sink and faucet.  The faucet folds down into the sink and it is only a cold water valve.

I am also adding 110V power supply to the trailer for a connection to shore power if we are ever at a camp ground.  This outlet is in the cabin cupboard if in the future we ever want to add an air-conditioner for sleeping or other AC appliances.  All other components in the trailer will be run on 12V DC circuits.

The cabinets are starting to take shape with stain and urethane.  All the cabinets are being constructed in pieces inside the trailer using the trailer sidewalls as part of the cabinet box.  I decided to do the cabinets in a darker walnut stain as a contrast to maple interior which is just getting a clear coat. .

With the darker walnut stain, I decided to do an metallic door panel from aluminum to lighten-up the interior.  I purchased 0.040 aluminum mill finished remnants and played with several things to give the aluminum a better look.  I messed around with various grits of sandpaper, steel wool, wire brushes and finally used a 220 grit sanding sponge.  I used a straight edge and ran the sanding sponge multiple passes dry and wet to get a streaked look that I thought might look OK.  I mounted the aluminum on 1/4 inch cherry  veneered plywood which fits in the dado groove of the rails and styles of the door frame.  We'll see how it looks when the door is assembled.
